Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in the early morning hours of Nov. 1 nabbed two men after they burglarized a business on Ga. Highway 85 South. Two other men are being sought in the break-in.

Sheriff Barry Babb said deputies at 2:25 a.m. responded to a commercial burglar alarm activation at DJ’s One Stop on Hwy. 85 South near Bernhard Road.

“The initial responding deputy observed a newer Ford SUV leaving the area of the convenience store as three males fled from inside the store,” said Babb.

Babb said additional responding deputies located the Ford SUV nearby and took the driver, a 24-year-old Atlanta man, into custody.

“The sheriff’s office K-9 team responded and began tracking the three males that fled on foot locating items of discarded clothing along the way,” said Babb. “During the K-9 search a driver in the area reported a male walking in the area of Highway 85 and Christopher Drive. Deputies quickly located the 25-year-old Ellenwood male and confirmed he was also involved in the commercial burglary.”

Investigators are currently working leads to locate the other two individuals involved in the commercial burglary as well to see if they are connected to a string of commercial burglaries through Georgia, said Babb.

Babb said the two males, whose names are not being released, are currently being held on pending charges of smash and grab burglary.
