Fayette County School System coordinator Virginia Gibbs on Oct. 17 gave school board members an update on the efforts to expand educational and career development partnerships with local businesses.
Gibbs reported that student internships in area businesses have increased 14 percent in the past 12 months.
There are currently 37 work sites this calendar year providing students with career pathway experience, Gibbs said.
Citing examples, Gibbs said students interested in environmental management, electrical engineering, firefighting and the film industry are receiving valuable experience through local businesses.
Gibbs said that 88 students are currently receiving internships in area businesses, with that number expected to increase
The former Fayette County Chamber of Commerce CEO, Gibbs was hired last year to fill the new Fayette County School System Coordinator of Innovative Partner Development, Work-based Learning and Youth Apprenticeship position.
