Lieutenant Colonel William Howard Fielder, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016, at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough, Ga.

He was born August 3, 1934 in Springfield, Ohio, to Howard Grant Fielder and Dorothy Whall Fielder. LTC Fielder served in Vietnam as an Intelligence Officer and was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic service in combat during the 1968 Tet Offensive in Hue City, Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1976. He served at the Pentagon for the Defense Intelligence Agency until he retired in 1996. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as his friends and family will attest.

LTC Fielder is survived by his wife, Hilda McLaughlin Fielder of Peachtree City; sons, Kurt Fielder of Phoenix, Ariz., Stephen Fielder of Fayetteville, Ga.; daughter, Jill Fielder Brown of Leesburg, Va.; stepdaughter, Barbara Stephens of Peachtree City, Ga. and stepson, Robert McLaughlin of San Antonio, Texas. He leaves behind seven grandchildren; Amy Fielder, Virginia Fielder, Craig Fielder, Mack Fielder Emily Brown, Eric Brown, and Maya Fielder and two step grandchildren, Sarah Stephens and Rachel Stephens.

LTC Fielder is preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Marian Ruth Fielder, son, Craig James Fielder, brother, Donald George Fielder and parents Howard Grant Fielder and Dorothy Whall Fielder.

LTC Fielder enjoyed traveling the globe, swimming and attending all his grandchildren’s various sporting events. He loved watching his Alma Mater, The Washington Huskies, whether it be football or basketball he loved them all and spent countless hours keeping up with their stats.

There will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family request all donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in remembrance of Marian Ruth Fielder.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough, Ga. for their extraordinary care and compassion.

Pop, you will be missed by all, we loved you dearly.
