Fayette County High School will host its 21st annual Fayette Classic speech and debate tournament Saturday, Oct. 8.

The organizers welcome members of the community who are interested in judging the local competition. Prior experience is not required as judges come from differing professions and backgrounds.

Judge training sessions, serving as an introduction to the events, will take place at 8 a.m. and noon on the day of the tournament. The tournament will proceed at 8:30 a.m. with multiple rounds until finals at 6:30 p.m. Judges will be provided free meals and snacks via the hospitality lounge.

Not interested in argument? Students are divided into two divisions. Debate teams are presented with dilemmas, and defend their stance on the given resolution, while speech students compete in a variety of events from public speaking with and without manuscripts, to theatrical performances. There is an event for any interest.
