The 2016 Atkinson Arnall Tribute Dinner is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Newnan Centre. The keynote speaker will be Atlanta Journal Constitution’s award-winning political cartoonist Mike Luckovich. U.S Senate candidate Jim Barksdale, state Rep. Robert Trammell, and County Commissioner Al Smith will also be speaking at the event.

Keynote speaker Luckovich won Pulitzer Prizes in 1995 and 2006 for editorial cartooning, a National Journalism Award in 2008 for editorial cartooning and a Reuben award, the National Cartoonists Society’s top award, in 2005.

Before coming to work at the AJC in 1989, Luckovich worked at the Greenville (S.C.) News and the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Luckovich graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in political science.

Barksdale is a Macon native and a graduate of the College of William and Mary. He also holds a master’s degree in business from the University of Pennsylvania.

After receiving his education Barksdale came back to Atlanta and started the Equity Investment Corporation in 1986 which now manages nearly $5 billion in the United States. Barksdale is running for a U.S. Senate seat in hopes of cutting wasteful spending.

Rep. Trammell from District 132 lives in Luthersville and began Trammell Law Firm there in 2003. He has also been Meriwether County Attorney since 2011 and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives since 2014.  Trammell is a graduate of the University of Georgia and holds a law degree from the University of Virginia.

Tickets for the 2016 Atkinson Arnall Tribute Dinner are $50 each. The dinner will be preceded by a cash bar cocktail hour featuring the musical stylings of Nichelle Young. Tickets are available now through PayPal at www.cowetademocrat.com. Checks made payable to the Coweta County Democrats can be mailed to P.O. Box 276 Newnan, GA 30264.
