Peachtree City Fire Rescue will launch its next Citizens Fire Academy next month and space is still available for interested local residents.

The Academy is a five-week program designed to educate and inform citizens about fire and emergency services achieving a greater understanding of the inner workings of Peachtree City Fire Rescue. It will be five weeks in length, 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Aug. 2.

Classes will be held at Peachtree City Fire Rescue Training Division, 110 Paschal Road. The instruction includes practical demonstrations that all participants are encouraged to participate in.  However, because of the voluntary nature of the program, physical limitations of applicants will not be considered a reason for exclusion from the academy.

Classes are free of charge but involve a commitment to attend all five weeks. The program concludes with graduation ceremonies Sept. 1. The application deadline is July 22.

Candidates for the Citizens’ Fire Academy must be at least 18 years of age and live in Peachtree City with no prior felony arrests at all and no misdemeanor arrests within six months of the application.

Students are selected by the Citizens’ Fire Academy Committee through an application process. Class sizes are limited to 30 students per session. All other applicants will be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted as vacancies become available.
