Tyrone Police Chief Brandon Perkins has received a recognition by the International Association of Police Chiefs (IACP). Perkins and the police department will be featured in the September isse of Police Chief Magazine.
Perkins was recently recognized by the Tyrone Town Council for his selection to the IACP “40 Under 40 for 2016” program.
This award designation is given to the best and brightest young professionals around the world in law enforcement and recognizes the work they accomplish beyond the normal call of duty, according to town staff.
“There isn’t a officer more deserving of the recognition in all of law enforcement than Brandon,” said Tyrone Mayor Eric Dial. “He has done an excellent job executing the duties and responsibilities of the department while continuing to focus on the need for better customer service required by modern policing.”
Perkins is part of a talented and dedicated group of individuals that will be featured in the September issue of Police Chief Magazine and will be recognized at the 2016 IACP Annual Conference and Exposition in October, said Dial.
Dial said that, during his tenure as chief that began in 2007, Perkins has implemented advanced metrics for officer training and evaluation which led to the community consistently being ranked on the list of the “Safest Cities in Georgia.”
Dial said Perkins has placed additional emphasis on community engagement and building rapport with residential associations, business owners and students at local elementary schools.
“In addition to the great work Brandon does for the town, he has also gained a reputation for being a staunch advocate for officer safety,” said Dial. “In 2015 he founded and is the executive director for American Armor Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit committed to financially assisting police departments across the nation that cannot afford to provide all officers with ballistic safety vests.”
