The first ever “Balloons Over Fayette” sponsored by Fayette County was dubbed a huge success by county officials.
County departments, vendors and scores of volunteers descended upon McCurry Park Saturday. While the weather didn’t exactly cooperate given the high temperatures of the day it was wonderful to see families and friends, residents and visitors alike enjoying the event. Over 10,000 people decided to spend their day with us. License tags abounded for out of county visitors and several neighboring states.
“We were excited to see so many turn out for our first balloon festival. The logistics involved for hosting an event of this type are numerous and we greatly appreciate the patience and understanding of those who encountered frustration with long lines. While it was hugely successful, we can and will do better with the next one,” said County Manager Steve Rapson.
“This event was the start of a great tradition,” said Chairman Charles Oddo. “We wanted to bring a fun festival to Fayette County that our residents and their friends would enjoy. Although it was an unusually warm day for early June, the balloons were beautiful and there were many activities for families.”
“We hope that our residents will come to our next Balloons Over Fayette and enjoy the gorgeous park,” said Recreation Director, Anita Godbee, “It was a great family event and folks really enjoyed the kid zone, live entertainment, arts and crafts.”
Planning for the 2017 event will begin well in advance and suggestions are accepted at BOF@fayettecountyga.gov.
