Dr. Carl Ulbrich, DO, 67, of Peachtree City, Ga., died unexpectedly, Sunday, May 8, 2016 at his home.
Carl was born January 5, 1949 in Troy, Mich. to Dr. Albert Ulbrich, DO, and Wilba (Jones) Ulbrich, RN. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1970 and from the Chicago College of Osteopathic medicine in 1974. Carl joined the U.S. Navy and while rising to the rank of Lt. Commander he met Susan Carol Gould when they were both stationed in Adak, Alaska. In 1980 they married on the beach in San Diego and shortly after moved to Sicily for two years during which they traveled extensively in Europe and North Africa.
When they returned to the United States, Carl and Susan moved to Chico, Calif. where they started their family and Carl practiced family medicine. Dr. Ulbrich also became board certified in emergency medicine and the family moved to the Woodlands, Texas for 6 years before settling in Peachtree City, Ga. Dr. Ulbrich worked at the Summit Urgent Care in Newnan, Ga. for many years and also took care of members of the community off the clock. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, running, and biking. An injury forced him to slow down but he still enjoyed kayaking and hiking with his dogs. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his children.
Carl is survived by his wife Susan; his four children, Simon and his wife Amy of Dallas, Texas, Juliann and her husband Andre of Glendale, Wis., Christina “Tasha” of Jupiter, Fla., and Peter of Peachtree City, Ga.; three grandchildren, Hali, Evelyn, and Annabelle; his brothers, Paul and Harley; and his sister, Miriam.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Erik in 1988.
A celebration of life will be held, Sunday, May 15 at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, 135 Senoia Rd, Peachtree City, Ga. 30269.
Friends may visit from 3 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home and are invited to share memories and reflections at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to DOCARE or the Southern Conservation Trust which stewards the Line Creek Nature Area where he loved to hike.
