Grow Day Camp is coming to Sharpsburg again this summer. Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church on Lower Fayetteville Road is a 2016 host site for Grow Day Camp.
Beginning Monday, June 13 thru Friday, June 17, rising first thru sixth graders will have an opportunity to enjoy a time of spiritual growth and social interaction while enjoying games, arts and crafts, archery, and more.
Camp Glisson and Retreat Center launched Grow Camp in 2003 as a traveling day camp for congregations throughout the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church (NGC). Grow Day Camp became so successful the NGC decided to launch the camp as a standalone ministry in 2013. Since that time, 32 churches have been selected to host Grow Day Camp.
According to Kim Reindl, director of children’s ministry, “The great thing is that Grow Day Camp will provide children with a professionally run Christian summer camp experience, without having to go away to camp. The people of Camp Glisson have years of practice planning and implementing fun and meaningful camp experiences. We are very excited that they are coming to us to offer this opportunity to kids within our community.”
Recently Cokes Chapel hosted a breakfast, with proceeds to be used to provide partial and full sponsorships for families who need financial assistance to send their child\children to Grow Day Camp.
“We want as many children as possible to attend camp,” said Cokes Chapel’s pastor, Mark Jordan, “If a family needs financial help they can call Mrs. Kim Reindl.” He went on to say Grow Day Camp is part of Cokes Chapel’s commitment to having a sustained outreach to the community.
“We want people to know that Cokes Chapel is a part of community not just on Sundays but every day,” Jordan said.
Reindl added, “The mission of the camp is for each camper to grow deeper roots in their faith (grow spiritually), to grow in their ability to work as a team (grow socially), and to grow in self-confidence as a loved child of God (grow individually). This will be a wonderful experience for all who participate.”
Grow Day Camp begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. Campers will need to bring lunch. The cost per camper is $135 for the week.
The Cokes Chapel Childcare Center is offering on-site extended care before and after camp each day starting at 6 a.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. for an additional $35 for the week.
