State Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone) announced the recipients of the 2016 Fludd Scholarship Award, which is available to graduating high school seniors in south metro Atlanta who plan to attend college and have outstanding academic and community service records.

“These students have exhibited exemplary academic achievements as well as active community involvement, and I am proud to honor their hard work with the Fludd Scholarship,” said Fludd. “As a state representative, education is a priority for me, and my colleagues and I continuously work hard to provide opportunities for our students to succeed. Thank you to those who have contributed to the scholarship fund to make these awards a reality for these students, and I look forward to future success as we continue to recognize some of Georgia’s most outstanding students.”

Recipients of the 2016 Fludd Scholarship Award include: Kadidiatou Bah of Banneker High School; Maria Curry of Whitewater High School; Alexandria Pinckney of McIntosh High School; Tajah Damm of Sandy Creek High School; Heyley Gatewood of Sandy Creek High School; and Brittney Johnson of Sandy Creek High School.

Rep. Fludd founded the Fludd Scholarship Program in 2006 to recognize student achievement, and the program is funded by the annual Virgil Fludd Scholarship Golf Tournament. This golf tournament, held each October during Columbus Day weekend, brings in contributions from business and community sponsors, as well as golfers of all skill levels. This year, the tournament is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 10, at Canongate Golf Club in Sharpsburg.
