Vivian Myco, born February 10, 1911, passed away April 23, 2016 peacefully at her home in Azalea Estates Assisted Living in Fayetteville, Ga. at the age of 105.
Vivian was born in New York City, raised in Norwalk, Conn. and was the beloved wife of James (Jim) W. Myco for 60 years. The name Vivian means “full of life” and one of her first social achievements was being crowned Miss Norwalk in 1928 at the age of 17.
Vivian married her soul mate, James Myco, on November 27, 1935 in New York City and celebrated afterwards by attending the 11th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade! After starting married life in Torrington, Conn., they lived happily in Westfield, Mass. for 20 years while raising their son and daughter. In Westfield, they were active members in The Episcopal Church of Atonement and she enjoyed activities with her husband in the Masonic Lodge and The Order of the Eastern Star.
In 1964 they moved to Walhalla, S.C. at the request of James’ job with the Torrington Needle Co. After their children grew up, they enjoyed traveling to many different countries, dancing, playing golf as a couple, bowling and entertaining at their home. Even after being considered “senior citizens,” they travelled with The Young at Heart Club, all the while remaining active members of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Walhalla. She enjoyed many activities in The Shrine Club with Jim and made visits to the Shriners Children Hospital in Greenville, S.C. Vivian was made a lifetime member of The Eastern Star.
After her husband passed in 1993, Vivian continued to socialize weekly through their small town and visited the local Arby’s 3 or more times a week; making friends with the staff who would even gas her car for her while she dined. When she turned 100 the Arby’s Walhalla hosted a birthday party where all her neighbors, church friends and friends from the local bank, post office and grocery store attended to wish her well! She even renewed her driver’s license at the age of 100!
In 2011 she moved to Azalea Estates Assisted Living in Fayetteville, Ga. to be near her daughter. There, her social life grew more with all of her new friends and her health flourished with the wonderful care and healthy meals cooked fresh each day. Until the end of her magnificent life, she was still telling stories about her travels and times with her husband, Jim. Now, she will finally be able to dance with him again and be his “leading lady” as she has always been!
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Myco and their son, Robert W. Myco. She will forever be remembered for her enduring love of life by her daughter Donna Repoff and her son-in-law Jack Repoff of McDonough, Ga.; granddaughter and her husband Kimberly and Kevin Heaton of Newnan, Ga.; grandsons Darrell Myco of Westfield, Mass. and Darren Myco of Duluth, Ga.; and great-grandson Jacob Myco of Westfield, Mass.
Vivian has requested to be cremated and laid to rest with her beloved husband. A family gathering and burial will be held at a later date at St. John’s Lutheran Church cemetery in Walhalla, S.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Vivian’s memory to American Legion Post 124 Scholarship Fund, Attn: Robert W. Myco Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 236, Westfield Mass. 01086-0236.
