Census says Coweta increases lead in population: Fayette at 110,714 and Coweta at 138,427
Fayette’s explosive growth rates of the 1980 and 1990s has slowed to a drip.
Last week, the U.S. Census Bureau released population estimates for July 1, 2015 for all the counties in the country.
Fayette’s population was pegged at 110,714, just a 1 percent increase from the 2014 population of 109,648. Since 2010, the county’s growth rate was 3.9 percent compared to the state’s growth rate of 5.4 percent.
Neighboring Coweta County saw its population increase by 2.2 percent last year and the population increase from 135,410 to 138,427. Since 2010, Coweta grew at an 8.7 percent increase.
The state’s population increased from 10,097,343 in 2014 to 10,214,860 for a growth rate of 1.1 percent. During the last year, the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, which includes both Fayette and Coweta, increased from 5,615,364 to 5,710,795 for an increase of 1.7 percent.
