Claude Olen Gunnin Sr., 92, of Fayetteville, passed away March 21, 2016.

He served his country in the US Army during World War II. Olen also served in many civic capacities including the Board for Christian City for 20 years, as East Point City Council for 20 years, as an Elder at East Point Christian, Westside Christian Church and First Christian Church of Tyrone, and was a founding board member of the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG). Olen was an attorney and a member of the Bar Association for over 50 years. In addition, he was the president of the Travelers Protective Association (TPA), president of the East Point Historical Society, and active in the Fulton County Republican Party and Fayette County Republican Party.

Olen is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ora Jean Gunnin; daughters Claudia (Preston) Johnson and Becky (Jim) Huff; son Claude Olen Gunnin, Jr.; grandchildren Ashley Gunnin, Scott (Diana) Sanders, Brady Antonio, Emily (Blair) Logan, Melanie Scott, J.P. (Jean) Scott, Logan Huff, and Clif Huff; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday, March 25, 2016, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, Tyrone, with Ministers Rich DeWees, Ralph Warren, and Howard Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 5 – 8 p.m., at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Christian City Children’s Home, www.christiancity.org/children, or First Christian Church of Tyrone, www.fcctyrone.org.
