The 2016 event season in downtown Newnan kicks off this weekend with the Art Walk and Screen on the Green scheduled for Friday, March 18. The Art Walk will be hosted from 5-9 p.m. and the Screen on the Green will begin at 7:30.

The Art Walk Event is the city’s celebration of local art and is hosted twice a year in downtown Newnan. Businesses extend their hours to host storefront exhibits and demonstrations curated by a variety of Newnan’s finest artists. Complementary tastings and hors d’oeuvres will be served by local businesses as well as specials and promotions. Visitors can expect to stroll through over 20 locations and see the work of at least 40 artists, and you will find a wide variety of art styles and mediums, including: oil on canvas, engraving, pottery, photography, jewelry-making, fiber arts, performing arts and acrylics. There is no fee for admission to this event.

The Screen on the Green Event takes place at the First Avenue Park, where the family-friendly animated film “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” will be featured in a litter-free, smoke-free environment. The event is free to the public, and crowds of all ages are welcome. Families are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on and pack a picnic supper to enjoy during the event, or come early and dine at a downtown restaurant.

In the event of inclement weather, the Screen on the Green will be hosted inside at the Wadsworth Auditorium.

Free parking is available along downtown streets, and in the City of Newnan’s public parking lots, located at: 13 LaGrange Street, 25 LaGrange Street, 22 Spring Street, 6 First Avenue, 50 East Broad Street, 65 East Broad Street, 41 East Washington Street, and 22 East Broad Street.
