Local business owner and attorney James Clifton has announced his campaign to run for the District 72 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.
The seat is currently held by House Majority Whip Matt Ramsey, who announced two weeks ago his intention not to seek reelection.
District 72 includes Peachtree City, south Fayette County, including Brooks and Woolsey, as well as, Senoia and Haralson and the surrounding areas of east Coweta County.
“I want to thank Rep. Ramsey for his service to this District over the last nine years. He has led with conservative values that I intend to continue,” said Clifton.
“I’m going to work hard for the people of this District and defend the Constitutional liberties with which we are endowed, especially those enumerated in the First Amendment. I will be a strong fiscal conservative and oppose tax hikes, while promoting a system of reduced spending. I believe in limited government and intend to make that a priority. These policies are what bring businesses to Georgia, which in turn create jobs and grow the economy. In addition, I’ll work to improve education in Georgia and ensure that we preserve the HOPE Scholarship. Last, the Republican party needs to work together to form a coalition of younger leaders to fight the radical socialist ideology that many millenials are gravitating towards, and that is precisely what I intend to do.”
