Four men have been charged with identity fraud following a Feb. 12 incident at the PetSmart store in Peachtree City.

Charged with financial identity fraud were Daquan A. Hamilton, 30, Brooklyn, N.Y., Karl M. Matthie, 26, of Upperdarby, Penn., Darnel A. Sutherland, 27, of Brooklyn N.Y. and Kemar A. Williams, 29, of Brooklyn N.Y., according to Fayette County Jail records.

Peachtree City Police Investigator Tim Pierson said Sutherland, the driver, was also charged with three counts of forgery and being a party to a crime.

Pierson on Thursday said a total of 22 warrants were taken on the four men.

The Feb. 12 incident began when a customer at PetSmart saw three of the men purchasing PetSmart gift cards. The customer thought something was wrong when the men were using numerous credit cards, making a number of transactions and sometimes moving to more than one check-out lane, Pierson said.

The customer saw their vehicle in the parking lot and snapped a photo of the car and the license plate, said Pierson.

The suspects had left the scene by the time officers were called and responded to the store, though a BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued. Pierson said 30 minutes later a Newnan police officer saw the vehicle pulling into the Newnan PetSmart and detained the men.

Peachtree City officers arrived and searched the vehicle, finding that three of the men were in possession of numerous credit cards with their names and the names of others on the cards, said Pierson.

The four men were taken into custody at the scene, Pierson said.

Pierson said all of the numerous cards, nearly all of which were Capital One cards, were fraudulent.

Bond for the four was denied.
