The city of Newnan has initiated the process to begin a full update of its comprehensive plan. In order to maximize community involvement and to document community needs and values, the city is seeking participation from citizens and other stakeholders throughout this update process.

Staff plans to engage in conversations around the theme of “What if?” at the drop-in public workshops and in widely circulated surveys. The ideas and aspirations for the city that are shared will lay the foundation for the comprehensive plan development. In this effort, staff will provide an online survey on the city’s website and will utilize the city’s Facebook site and other platforms.

“A city’s comprehensive plan provides a coordinated framework for future actions regarding zoning decisions and updates, funding priorities, and the overall way a city looks and functions,” said city planner Chris Cole. “We are hoping that our public participation efforts will inspire citizens and other stakeholders to be involved in this process.”

The city has also scheduled two drop-in public workshops to gather input from stakeholders. The first is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 25, 6-8 p.m. at the Carnegie Library. The second is set for Thursday, March 3, 6-8 p.m. at the Newnan Centre.

For questions regarding the comprehensive plan update, contact Cole at 770-254-2354 ext. 6.
