Caroline Lillian Moore Smith went home to be with her beloved Lord and savior Jesus Christ on January 8, 2016. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home in Peachtree City, Ga., surrounded by loving family, caregivers and her dear little dog, Molly.

She was born on December 6, 1920, in Cayce, S.C. She graduated from Brookline-Cayce High School and then moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where she took a business course and became a stenographer with an insurance company located near the historic Florida Theatre.

It was in Jacksonville that she met a Navy petty officer stationed at the Naval Air Station, the love of her life, Eric W. F. Smith. After their courtship Caroline and Eric were married in a religious ceremony at the historic Oldest House in St. Augustine, Fla. When World War II ended they moved to Miami, Fla., and built a life together enjoying a long, loving and wonderful marriage. In later years, upon Eric’s retirement, they moved to Cricket Hollow in Switzerland, Fla., and built a lake home which they enjoyed with family and friends for many years. Caroline and Eric were constant companions, best friends and completely devoted to each other for over sixty years until Eric passed away in 2002. Caroline was a lifelong housewife for her husband and their four children. She was an incredible, selfless and loving mother to the children, going above and beyond to make her family and her husband happy and always putting her family before herself. Indeed, her family was her whole world. She was adored by her children, Sheryl, Janice, Steve and Eric, as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Caroline was a devout Christian, faithful churchgoer, as a member of both Switzerland Community Church and First Baptist Church of Peachtree City and enthusiastic volunteer for many years at Wellspring. During her vibrant and wonderful life she touched many people in positive ways because of her thoughtful and caring ways. Into her 90’s she would prepare a meal on occasion and take it to a homebound, younger friend. Although she outlived many of her friends she made new ones faster than anyone could keep track of. She will be missed by all who knew her and called her Mom, Grandma, or “Miss Caroline. “

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Judge Henry Carrison Moore and Lily Moore; and five brothers and sisters; as well as her loving husband, Eric W.F. Smith.

She is survived by her sister Mildred Brown of Columbia, S. C.; her children, Eric Smith (Gloria) of Jacksonville, Fla., Sheryl Davis (Gary, Sr.) of Peachtree City, Ga., Steven Smith (Carol) of Mandarin, Fla., and Janice Larkin (Bruce) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A service of celebration and remembrance were held for her on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Peachtree City. The visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wellspring Living in Peachtree City, Ga.
