David C. Akins, Jr.

He was born December 18, 1925 in Jasper, Ala. to David C. Akins, Sr and Elma Sherer Akins.  He grew up in Gardners Gin and Cordova, Ala., the sixth of eight brothers and sisters.  He was All County Varsity Football and Basketball at Cordova High School.  He entered the Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946.  He married Barbara Jean Conner in June, 1947 and moved to Birmingham to attend Howard College, now Samford University, where he received his degree in business.

He was an executive at the Chrysler Corporation until he took early retirement and moved with Barbara to Peachtree City.  There he became an avid golfer and was active in Kiwanis.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara C. Akins; his parents David C., Sr. & Elma Akins; his brothers Sherrell Akins, Pope Akins, Charles Akins and Ramsey Akins; his sisters Rosamond Moncrief and Estine Hunter.  

He is survived by his daughter Barbara Ann and husband Louis Hill of Johns Creek; son David E. and wife Gail Jensen Akins of Peachtree City; sister Anne Kildron of Santa Monica, Calif.; and many, many nieces and nephews.  

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 2 p.m.  in the chapel of Carl J Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Peachtree City. Chaplain Jim Weathers will officiate. The burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.
