Fayette County officials issued a statement Monday updating the ongoing work at Lake Peachtree and detailing what remains.

County Manager Steve Rapson specified four issues that still need attention:

• Three siltation stockpiles adjacent to Drake Field, too far in the lake to reach from shore.

• Pilings that need to removed.

• Remaining access roadbed.

• Massana-related equipment.

“The water level is low enough — but we need another week or so to get the roads drained and dry enough to allow hauling to start again in earnest,” Rapson stated in his report to the Board of Commissioners that was also forwarded to The Citizen.

“Once the above are completed we’ll begin the final work on Drake Field by removing the haul road and restoring the field to its original condition. This, of course, is contingent upon if it stops raining.”

Regarding the spillway, there are two final change orders underway which are expected to be formally approved by the Board of Commissioners at its Dec. 10 regular meeting.

They are “for grouting small voids and final spillway evaluation,” Rapson stated. “Those are projected to be completed over the next few weeks.”
