In anticipation of exceptionally rainy weather, Peachtree City officials closed Spear Road Wednesday evening and planned to decide Thursday morning whether to reopen it.

“Several inches of rain are expected this evening, and Fayette County is under a flood watch,” a city spokesperson stated Wednesday afternoon. “Although temporary repairs have been made to the culvert that washed out under Spear Road, the road will be CLOSED to through traffic just west of the City Limits beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18. Staff will re-evaluate the status of the road and culvert Thursday, Nov. 19, following the storm.”

While the temporary repairs that were made last week to Spear Road are safe under normal conditions, officials feared the pending weather event could cause additional damage. City staff is currently getting pricing for the completed design work that will permanently fix the roadway.
