Fayetteville on Nov. 5 will hold a town hall meeting to receive comments and feedback on the proposed Downtown Fayetteville Master Plan.

Available business space in the downtown area was once plentiful, but the addition of restaurants and other retail offerings has brought those days to a close.

Pertaining to the downtown master plan, Community Development Director Brian Wismer said, “In response to one of the 2015 action items of the Fayetteville City Council made at the council’s retreat in February, city staff has begun working with the consulting firm Foley and Associates to develop a master plan for downtown Fayetteville. The goal of this plan is to create a vision that will guide future growth and development of the town center, so that developers will know what the city and its citizens want in their community.”

The project area encompasses approximately 75 acres between Lanier Ave (Ga. Highway 54), Glynn Street (Ga. Highway 85) and Grady Avenue.

The downtown plan is expected to include a variety of uses such as single-family, multi-family, mixed use and expanded opportunities for retail and office. The plan includes looking at future uses for the county complex located at Hwy. 85 and Stonewall Avenue.

“When we were approached a few years ago about the (apartments, townhomes and single-family) development on Grady Avenue there was a lot of opposition by the public. Part of the opposition was due to not having a plan to point developers to an area that would be most appropriate,” Wismer said. “Having a plan will help us going forward to point them in the right direction.”

The town hall meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Nov. 5 at city hall.

Wismer said the public is encouraged to attend and provide feedback to the staff and the consultants which will be incorporated into the plan, adding that the city wants public input on how the downtown should look.

“We want any and everything to be on the table for discussion that night,” Wismer said.
