The October meeting of the South Metro GeorgiaCarry.Org chapter is today from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Fayette Event Center, located at 174 North Glynn St, in Fayetteville.
From 6-7 p.m., the group is planning a Mexican Fiesta party/social hour! The menu for the meeting is chicken and beef fajitas with all the fixings, chips and salsa, along with desert. Fayetteville native and 2013 Whitewater High grad Angelica Robinson is celebrating the release of her debut album “Where I’m From” with an event today, at 7:30 p.m. at Twisted Taco in downtown Fayetteville.Robinson said that the album is dedicated to her hometown. She and her band, currently based in Nashville, will perform at the event.

Fayetteville Main Street is pleased to announce multiple events happening in downtown Fayetteville today with entertainment throughout the day. At the Gazebo, residents can shop at an extended Market Day. With over 80 vendors, it should be easy to find that special gift and get a head start on holiday shopping. The same weekend also hosts a long-standing tradition for kids of all ages. The Great Pumpkin Festival and Trick or Treat on Main Street will be a fun spectacle around the square as families come downtown to enjoy hay rides, train rides, face painting, games and sightseeing of the hundreds of decorated pumpkins that will be on display at the Old Courthouse lawn throughout the week leading up to Halloween. These activities will be interspersed between the Market Day vendors, and kids will be able to visit the vendor booths and downtown businesses for trick-or-treating from 3:30 – 4 p.m. The kid’s costume contest will begin at 4 p.m. for children ages 13 and under, with prizes awarded in different age groups. New this year, the Night Walk event starts at 6 p.m. at the fountain area. Adults will participate in their own costume contest, sponsored by Main Street and the City of Fayetteville. Prizes will be awarded Immediately following, the one-mile Night Walk will begin around downtown Fayetteville with costumed ghouls taking in the sites of the City. Free hot chocolate and smores will be available at the conclusion of the Night Walk. Also on the old Courthouse lawn from noon- 3 p.m. that same day, the annual ChiliFest will showcase many local homemade chili and salsa samples available for $1 each. The South Metro Rose Society meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features SMRS Master Rosarian and Past President, Walt Reed, speaking on “Winterizing Your Roses.” His program will describe how you can put your roses to bed for the winter so that they will have the best chance of surviving the challenging conditions that we have experienced the last two years. Are you facing the challenges of caregiving that come with caring for a loved one? If so, you are not alone. Approximately 65 million people, 29 percent of the U.S. population, provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aging family member or friend. In efforts to provide meaningful information for caregivers, FSS will host organizations and services available in our community that can use used to support the caregiver. The community is invited to Oak Grove Elementary’s Oaktoberfest from 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. with “Hotel Transylvania” on the big screen after the event. This spooktacular fundraiser will feature midway games, pie eating contests, face painting, spooky cake walk, Twisted Twister, Tug-o-War, corn hole tournament, haunted maze, hockey rink, fortune teller and more. The Fayette County Public Library invites the public to attend a free fiction-writing workshop titled “Who Am I? Masking & Unmasking the Self with Stories,” today from 4-5:30 p.m.The interactive session is open to all adults and high school students who are interested in writing fiction. Participants should bring paper and something to write with. No advance registration is required. How much of yourself goes into the characters you write? How much of your own reality do you reveal or conceal in the stories you create? How can we all use fiction writing to discover some of our own inner secrets and solve real life problems? Local author Katibeth Rabern (and her alter ego/pen name Jack Tyler Jones) will address these questions of identity exploration in fiction writing, with some readings and some hands-on writing exercises. The Cobb County Republican Women’s Club is sponsoring its 13th annual Veterans Celebration Brunch with keynote speaker Terry Garlock of Peachtree City, author of “Strength & Honor – America’s Best in Vietnam.” The event is today at 10 a.m. at the Hilton Marietta Conference Center, 500 Powder Springs Street in Marietta. The Peachtree City Falcon Field Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is hosting an open house Thursday, today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Peachtree City United Methodist Church, 225 Robinson Road. According to Lt. Col. David Mitchell, squadron commander, the entire community is welcome to attend and learn more about CAP. Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors and explain CAP’s new status about missions and being part of the “Total Force” of the United States Air Force. The open house is designed to create a greater awareness of CAP’s presence and contributions in the community such as emergency services, cadet programs, aerospace education, and to invite citizens ages 12 and up to have an opportunity to be a part of serving our community, county, state and country. Charles Andrews will be the speaker today at the Fayette Master Gardener Association meeting at 11 a.m. at the Bridge in Peachtree City. Andrews’ knowledge of plants is self-taught, with over 40 years of study and digging inthe dirt. He is president of the Azalea Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society and a member of the Azalea Society of America. The public is invited to this free event.
