The Georgia Council for the Social Studies will present its first annual Social Studies Teacher of Promise (TOP) award to Kerry Moore, a social studies teacher at Whitewater High.

The TOP award recognizes beginning social studies teachers who show exceptional promise in the field of teaching social studies. Selection criteria include efforts toward the improvement of student learning and engagement; activities that foster democratic values and citizenship in the classroom, school and community; use of multiple sources to enhance social studies instruction; and professional interest and involvement beyond normal job requirements.

Moore will be honored at an awards luncheon Oct. 22 during the Georgia Council for the Social Studies (GCSS) Conference at the Classic Center in Athens. He will receive a plaque, complimentary conference registration, and a one-year membership to GCSS.
