The elderly driver and passenger of a car, along with two pedestrians, were injured on Oct. 13 when the vehicle struck two people outside the Department of Drivers Services building on McDonough Road near Fayetteville.

Sheriff Barry Babb said the accident occurred Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle belonging to an elderly couple entered the parking lot, with the driver attempting to park the vehicle in a handicap space. The driver, an 82-year-old Fayetteville man, accelerated rather than braking while attempting to park the car.

The vehicle left the handicap space and struck two people standing in a covered area outside the building, Babb said.

The vehicle then came to a stop after striking the handicap ramp attached to the building.

The two pedestrians and the couple were transported for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries, Babb said.
