Candidate forums set for upcoming elections

Candidates vying for open seats in the upcoming municipal elections in Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Tyrone are scheduled to appear at two separate candidate forums this month. The public is invited and will have an opportunity to hear from and ask questions of candidates vying for contested seats in Fayette’s municipal elections Nov. 3.

Fayetteville candidates will gather Thursday, Oct. 8, 6-8 p.m. at Sams Auditorium, 205 Lafayette Avenue in Fayetteville. Mayoral candidates incumbent Greg Clifton and Edward Johnson; City Council Post 1 candidates are Harlan Shirley and write-in Mimi Oddo; City Council Post 2 candidates are Kathaleen Brewer and incumbent Mickey Edwards.

Peachtree City and Tyrone candidates will gather Monday, Oct. 12, 6-8 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School, 360 Jenkins Road in Tyrone. Peachtree City Post 1 candidates are Phil Prebor and Shayne Robinson. Tyrone mayoral candidates are incumbent Eric Dial and Derrick Jackson; Town Council Post 2 candidates are incumbent Ryan Housley and Wil James.

At each forum, candidates will answer questions from a panel of moderators and take questions from attendees. Meet and greet opportunities will be available following the program.

Both candidate forums are sponsored by the Fayette County Branch of the NAACP, Fayette Chamber of Commerce, Fayette County Democratic Committee, Fayette County Republican Party and the Fayette County Issues Tea Party.

Citizens are reminded that the last day to register to vote for the November election is Oct. 5. Early voting will take place Oct. 12-30 at the Fayette County Elections Office and Oct. 19-30 at the Peachtree City Library and Tyrone Town Hall. Voting hours at all locations are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
