Piedmont Newnan Hospital continues its season of Walk with a Doc with Richard Jadick, D.O., a urologist with Piedmont Physicians Urology. Dr. Jadick is considered the most decorated physician of the Iraq War.
All members of the Coweta County community are invited to join up with Dr. Jadick Saturday, Aug. 22, at Carl Miller Park (70 Sewell Road in Newnan).
Dr. Jadick earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency training in urology at the Medical College of Georgia and retired from the U.S. Navy in June of 2013 after 23 years of service. He is board certified with the American Board of Urology.
Dr. Jadick is most noted for his nine-month deployment to Afghanistan in Oct. 2012, where he established a forward aid station on the very front lines and was credited with saving the lives of 30 Marines and sailors during the Second Battle of Fallujah. His story was first documented in a Newsweek cover story titled “Hero, MD” and then later his own account in his book, “On Call in Hell: A Doctor’s Iraq War Story”.
Walkers are encouraged to gather at the park by 8:15 a.m. as the walk begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Jadick will take a few minutes to talk a health topic of his choice before leading the walk while he answers specific questions from participants.
Participants will receive a pedometer to help them keep track of the number of steps they take, as well as a choice of a free T-shirt or water bottle. While the event is free, registration is required by calling 877-527-3712 or visiting piedmont.org/walkwithadoc. Registration will also be available on site starting at 8 a.m.
Piedmont launched Walk with a Doc after their health needs assessment showed that one in four adults in Coweta County is physically inactive and nearly one in three is considered obese. The walks not only encourage physical fitness, but give participants one-on-one time with a physician. The walks will be held the fourth Saturday of each month through September.
