Southside Theatre Guild scored 16 nominations and took home four awards in the recent Metro Atlanta Theater Awards, the local equivalent of the Tonys celebrating the best in live theater.

Each year theaters from around the metropolitan area compete with each other for nominations in multiple award categories. This year STG received nominations for awards such as best overall performance, sound design, lighting design, costume design, set design, minor supporting actor, leading actor and actress, best ensemble and the Moira Thornett director’s award just to name a few.

The awards were given out over the weekend at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.

The nod for best leading actor went to local resident Willis Wright, Jr. as Troy Maxson in Southside Theatre Guild’s production of “Fences.”

STG also took the awards for sound design, set design and best ensemble play. Congratulations to local residents Roger Johnson, Lance Smith, Shannon Timberlake, Jared Wright, Logan Timberlake, Jim Poteete, Rob Timberlake, Shannon Becham on a job well done.

If you want an early glimpse of next year’s award winners, season tickets for this season are now on sale at www.stg.plays.com. Or you can try out and be part of a production, which might put you in the running for an award yourself.
