Three people have qualified for the Sept. 15 special election to fill the unexpired term of recently deceased District 5 Commissioner Pota Coston on the Fayette County Commission.
The qualifying period for the Sept. 15 election ended at noon on Aug. 14 with Angela Bean of Fayetteville, Charles Rousseau and Peyton W. Riley qualifying.
Rousseau, 54, is retired after serving in management posititons with Fulton County government. Rousseau ran as a Democrat an unsuccessful bid for a commission seat in a special election in 2006. That race was referenced in the district voting lawsuit brought by the NAACP. Click here for that story from March 14, 2006.
Bean, 58, listed her occupation as independent contractor/graphic artist. In her announcement letter, Bean referenced her ties to the Fayette Republican Party.
Peyton W. Riley, 48, of Fayetteville, listed his occupation as financial services.
None of the candidates listed a party affiliation on their qualifying paperwork. Elections Supervisor Tom Sawyer said such a move is permitted in a special election even though it is a partisan election.
