Mrs. Pauline Elizabeth Howell Jones, 93, of Fayetteville, Ga. died August 9, 2015.

She was the oldest child of William T. and Ara Turner Howell, and she grew up and lived her entire life in Fayetteville.  Mrs. Jones was actively involved in many facets of the Fayetteville First Baptist Church for all of her adult life.  She taught many preschool children from Fayetteville and surrounding areas in the church preschool kindergarten program from its establishment in 1962, and served as its director for some 10 years.  Many adults throughout the area still speak fondly of the influence that “Miss Pauline” had on their lives.  Following retirement as church kindergarten director in 1974, she helped her husband Spencer start their retail carpet and floor covering business on South Glynn Street in Fayetteville.  They operated it together for over 12 years before retiring and selling the business.  After that, their greatest joys were traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.

Mrs. Jones was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and sister who loved her family and her Lord.  She was also a proud and loving grandmother and great-grandmother, serving as a wonderful role model for all of her family.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Spencer, and by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Jones King, who, following in her mother’s footsteps, was also an early childhood teacher.  Also preceding Pauline in death were a sister, Louise Howell Williams, and brother, William T. (Pete) Howell, Jr.  She is survived by her son, Spencer Larry Jones of Okatie, S.C.; son-in-law, Jim King of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brother James L. Howell (Lois) of Fayetteville, Ga.; and four grandchildren, Katherine Jones Reeves (Dallas) of Okatie, S.C.; Spencer D. King (Meg) of Smyrna, Ga.; Sarah King Percy (Scott) of Marietta, Ga.; and Whitaker H. Jones of Columbia, S.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Dallas Reeves, Jr., Sterling Reeves, Benjamin Percy and Hattie King.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the entire staff of Azalea Estates Assisted Living Center in Fayetteville, where Pauline lived happily and was loved for the past 10 years.  Thanks are also given to the staff of Hospice Advantage for their kind outreach care.  And special thanks to Pauline’s individual caregivers who have sat by her side and made her life fuller by their aid and comfort for the past three years. That group includes Shirley Langston, Brenda Samuels, Emma Darden, Michelle Brummit, Blanche Hood and Jamie Glenn.

Pauline Jones was a devoted native citizen of Fayetteville who loved her family, her community, her church and her many friends.  She remained the same kind, gentle and caring individual throughout her entire life.  She will be missed, but we know that she is in a better place, with her devoted husband Spencer, her sweet daughter Beth, her parents and brother and sister, as well as many others who are now welcoming her home.

Her funeral service will be Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Reverend Glenn Stringham and Reverend Buddy Barron officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City, Ga.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 -11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Weekday Education Program at Fayetteville First Baptist Church, 205 East Stonewall Avenue, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214 in memory of Mrs. Pauline.
