Crews in Peachtree City are currently working on shoring up the bridge on Flat Creek Road. The work is part of a $298,000 project that will perform needed repairs on four city bridges.
City engineer David Borokowski said the Flat Creek Road bridge project, situated between Golfview Drive and Country Club Court, will have concrete encasements poured around the metal piles that support the bridge. The piles are also being painted to prevent rusting.
Borokowski said the handrails will be replaced with a concrete wall that is similar to typical bridge standards. New guardrails are also being installed, he added.
Work required intermittent single lane closures last week as concrete trucks arrived. Crews will be replacing guardrails and motorists should expect single-lane closures, city staff said.
Work is expected to be completed by Aug. 25. To avoid school traffic, work will begin after 9 a.m.
In all, the bridge repair projects on four bridges, including the work already completed on the bridge on Kelly Drive, encompasses work such as pile painting, concrete repair, joint repairs, guardrail installation and scour repair.
Work on two bridges on Smokerise Trace will begin later in the summer and is expected to be completed by the end of September, staff said.
Borokowski said the Smokerise projects will keep the decorative handrails in place while performing work such as painting the metal piles and adding rock below the bridges.
