Members of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church welcome Dr. David Campbell as the new senior minister. Campbell and his family come to Fayetteville from Trinity UMC in Rome, Ga., where Campbell served as senior pastor for the last 10 years.

“We are excited about being back in Fayette County,” says Campbell. We have so many wonderful memories of this community. But we are even more excited about the future. FFUMC is known throughout our conference for the wonderful way they fulfill the Great Commission. We look forward to being a part of the great work God is doing here.”

Campbell earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Georgia State University (1986), a master of divinity from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology (1988) and a doctor of ministry from United Theological Seminary (1994).  In addition to his ministry at Trinity UMC, Campbell has served at Cornerstone in Newnan (1999-2005), Inman (1993-1999), Fairview in Ft. Oglethorpe (1988-1993) and Cassville (1986-1988).

After serving for several years as an Army Reserve Chaplain, Campbell was mobilized in 2003 for a year in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2014, he won the Denman Award for Evangelism for the Rome-Carrollton District. Campbell has served on numerous committees and councils within the United Methodist Church and in the community.

Campbell is married to the former Susan Allen, a musician who has sung with acclaimed groups including the Charlotte Oratorio Singers, Chattanooga Opera and Atlanta Opera. For the past ten years she has taught at Rome Middle School and developed a 300-member award-winning show choir. The Campbells have three children: Hannah, who recently graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in music therapy; Jay, who just graduated from the Georgia School for the Deaf; and Ally, who is a rising junior and will attend Whitewater High School this fall.
