New Writers Night is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. at the Newnan Barnes & Noble as authors from the community are invited to showcase their new titles. Genres range from fiction and memoir to inspiration and self-help. Authors include Dr. Tim Riordan, W. Terry Harrison, Lauren Mitchell, Tecia Farmer Janes, Natischa Harvey, LaTania Williams, Chase J. Jackson, Connie Singleton, John Clark McCall, Jr, Todd Grey, and Princess Gooden. The community is invited to meet this local talent and discover a new favorite author.

An AARP Drivers Safety Class is scheduled for today from 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Central Library in Newnan. The class will review participants’ driving skills and review the new rules of the road. It is open to all ages. Completing the class could result in savings on car insurance. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. To register, phone 770-683-2052.

The Southern Crescent Storytellers, a cluster group of the Southern Order of Storytellers, will present Father Goose Brigade Storytelling for all ages Saturday, June 27, 2-4 p.m. in the Peachtree City Public Library;s Floy Farr Room.
Take photos with Father Goose, Mother Goose, and Puppy Goose Fletcher. Photo opportunities will be available starting at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free, as are the refreshments and raffle drawing. Members of the community and professional storytellers will be telling tales. The Southern Crescent Storytellers are a dedicated group of talented people who are committed to the arts in south Metro Atlanta, to the advancement of children’s literary accomplishments, and to helping make storytelling once again an integral part of culture and entertainment in Georgia and the Southeast. Famed Southern rock group 38 Special will “rock into the night” at Fayetteville’s Southern Ground Amphitheater today. Saturday’s opening act is Atlanta group Shyanne. A few tickets still remain for 38 Special and range from $35-$45. The next show will be the legendary Four Tops scheduled for Saturday, July 11. Tickets to all shows are available via SouthernGroundAmp.com and at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Fayetteville.The Southern Ground Amphitheater is owned by the Downtown Development Authority and managed by the Main Street Tourism Association of Fayetteville.

Main Street Newnan kicks off Newnan’s Independence Day activities with a parade today. The parade begins at Veteran’s Memorial Park at 9 a.m., and ends at Greenville Street Park.
Following the parade, the monthly Market Day will be hosted from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. We encourage all visitors to browse through the Market after the parade to see what unique specialty items our local artisans, artists, and farmers have to sell. The Main Street Newnan Market features handmade, homemade and homegrown products, with new vendors and new products each month. The Market will feature over 50 unique spaces, with a variety of one-of-a-kind gift items. Market Day favorites include: fresh locally grown produce, honey, jams & jellies, salsa, pottery, art, handmade children’s clothes, hand-woven baskets, leather products, freshly baked goods, handmade furniture, handmade birdhouses, wood-art, fiber-art, wreathes and floral design, and much more! The Market Day is open to the public and there is no admission charge for visitors. Pickin’ on the Square will begin at 11 a.m. around the Court House Square. Here, you can expect to enjoy the vernacular sounds of local musicians playing acoustic music around the Court House Lawn. The Newnan Rotary club will also host the 30th annual local Independence Day festivities during the evening at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium, which is located less than a mile away from downtown Newnan. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., and will consist of patriotic festivities, food, children’s activities, entertainment and a Fireworks Display. The Rotary Club of Newnan is supported with co-sponsorship for this event by The City of Newnan, Coweta County, and Coweta County Schools.

An informational program titled “Pain Is A 4-Letter Word” is scheduled for today from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Fayette Senior Services’ Fayetteville location, The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive.
There is no argument to the discomfort that arthritis can cause, but there are ways to help alleviate some of the pain. Dr. Josh Davis with First Step Physical Therapy will cover the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, the causes of them, options for treatment, and ways to help with arthritic pain and inflammation.
