Midwest Food Bank (MFB), brought food and supplies to be processed at the Eaton’s Cooper Lighting warehouse to provide volunteer opportunities for employees at their home base May 11.

MFB brought 175,000 items of food and supplies in a semi-trailer truck to the Eaton’s Cooper Lighting warehouse. The food items included 20 pallets of granola and candy bars to be bagged for easy distribution, and supplies included sunscreen and lip balm to be processed in the same fashion.

“We have enjoyed having Eaton employees come to the Food Bank to volunteer in the past.  We wanted to give more employees an opportunity to serve their community, so we decided to bring the food bank to them,” said Will Garner, executive director of Midwest Food Bank, Georgia Division.

Eaton employees came to volunteer during their workday shifts. By the end of the day, over 220 Eaton employees had processed all 175,000 items that MFB delivered to the warehouse.

In the past year, Eaton’s Cooper Lighting employees have donated over 550 volunteer hours at Midwest Food Bank. Their efforts have created a highly collaborative relationship between Midwest Food Bank and Eaton’s Cooper Lighting.

“It is a blessing for Midwest to have a community partner like Eaton’s Cooper Lighting, and we look forward to this partnership continuing to grow as we work to help bridge the gap between prosperity and poverty in our community,” said Garner.

Midwest Food Bank, Georgia Division, located in Peachtree City is one of seven Midwest Food Bank locations. MFB Georgia Division began operations in October 2011 and currently supports over 160 nonprofit agencies in a 300 mile radius of Atlanta area with food and supplies. As a faith based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to alleviate hunger and poverty by gathering and distributing food donations to nonprofit organizations and disaster sites without cost to the recipients.
