A new tradition has begun for Starr’s Mill High band students receiving music scholarships – an annual College Band Signing Day.
Six band members of the 2015 graduating class received music scholarships to local colleges and universities collectively totaling $64,400. The school celebrated their accomplishments by hosting the first annual College Band Signing Day at the end of the second semester.
The scholarship recipients are:
Elise Conti, oboe performance major, Kennesaw State University, $2,000 KSU School of Music Scholarship.
Jon Grizzle, music education major, Mercer University, $2,250 (per semester) Townsend School of Music Scholarship.
Allessandra Harms, music education major, Georgia State University, $2,400 GSU School of Music Scholarship.
Erica Sanders, music minor, Agnes Scott College, $12,000 (over four years) Nannette Hopkins Music Scholarship.
Kyle Wegner, double major in music and computer science, Mercer University, $7,000 per year scholarship.
Aston Williams, music technology major, LaGrange College, $2,000 marching band scholarship.
In addition to the music scholarships, the band members also received academic scholarships, which when combined, total over $424,000 in scholarship dollars awarded to the students.
