Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church in east Coweta County has been selected as a 2015 host site for Grow Day Camp. Beginning Monday, June 8 thru Friday, June 12, rising first thru sixth graders will have an opportunity to enjoy a time of spiritual growth and social interaction while enjoying games, arts and crafts, archery, and more.
Grow Day Camp begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. Campers will need to bring lunch and a snack. The cost per camper is $125 for the week. Partial and full scholarships are available.
Camp Glisson and Retreat Center launched Grow Camp in 2003 as a traveling day camp for congregations throughout the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Grow Day Camp became so successful the NGC decided to launch the camp as a standalone ministry in 2013; since that time, 32 churches have been selected to host Grow Day Camp.
According to Kim Reindl, director of children’s ministry, “The great thing is that Grow Day Camp will provide children with a professionally run Christian summer camp experience, without having to go away to camp. The people of Camp Glisson have years of practice planning and implementing fun and meaningful camp experiences. We are very excited that they are coming to us to offer this opportunity to kids within our community.”
“We want as many children as possible to attend camp,” said Cokes Chapel Pastor Mark Jordan, “If a family needs help they can call Mrs. Kim Reindl.” He went on to say Grow Day Camp is part of Cokes Chapel’s commitment to have a sustained outreach to the community. “We want people to know that Cokes Chapel is a part of community not just on Sundays but every day.”
Reindl added, “The mission of the camp is for each camper to grow deeper roots in their faith (grow spiritually), to grow in their ability to work as a team (grow socially), and to grow in self-confidence as a loved child of God (grow individually). This will be a wonderful experience for all who participate.”
