Take some time to thank government employees

Across the country and in the communities of Fayette, Clayton, and Coweta counties, government employees serve and protect us every day. Throughout the year, but especially during Public Service Recognition Week, May 3-9, we should gratefully acknowledge their service.

The Fayetteville Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) would like to acknowledge and thank the 178,458 active and retired federal employees in Georgia.

Federal employees work side by side with our military at home and abroad to defend our country. They protect our borders and regulate the safety of our food and medicines. When natural disasters strike, they are there to help us recover. Federal employees also conduct cutting-edge research to improve public health, most recently evident during the fight against Ebola.

Federal employees have a direct impact on our communities, by caring for our veterans, protecting our airports, securing our borders and ensuring Social Security checks arrive on time. These are all critical services on which we rely.

During Public Service Recognition Week, please join me and the members of NARFE Chapter 1435 in thanking and recognizing the important work of the public employees in our community.
