Adolphus Reid Hanes, 92, died peacefully in Atlanta, Ga. on April 16, 2015. He was born on March 17, 1923 and grew up in Surry County, NC. as a young man,

Reid served in the Civilian Conservation Corps under FDR during the Depression and later in the Army during WWII, landing in Normandy during the second wave as support troops to the Infantry.  After the war, he worked in the trucking industry in High Point, N.C. and Atlanta, Ga. where he retired after 35 years.
 

His determination and strong work ethic were reflected in his decision to move to Atlanta where he attended law school and graduated with a Juris Doctor law degree. He often said it was his children who brought him the greatest joy.

He is survived by his children Linda (Tommy) Kenner, Todd Hanes, Eda Beacham and Thor (Stacie) Hanes; five grandchildren Burl Kenner, Shannon Kenner, Tammy Eckstein, Todd Beacham, and Jeff Beacham; and twelve great-grandchildren.  

Visitation will be from 11 until 12 noon,  Sat., April 25 at H.M. Patterson Funeral Home Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Brookhaven, Ga. 30319, with a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5755 Mallory Road, Fairburn-Union City, Ga. 30349.
