Fayette condemning homes for Hwy. 92S roundabout

The Commissioners and DOT of Fayette County have plans underway to put in as many as three roundabouts on Ga. Highway 92 South.

We all know traffic trying to exit Seay, Harp and Antioch roads onto Hwy. 92S is difficult. A simple traffic light could ease this problem.

The county does not want the expense of maintaining a traffic light, so they have proposed and set in motion their plans to install the three roundabouts.

The trouble with that is they are TAKING homes from people who have been given no say. A meeting is set for April 28 to “discuss” the matter, but as surveyors are already on the streets working and letters have been sent, it’s pretty obvious the commissioners have made their decision.

My questions are: Would the commissioners be happy to receive a letter in the mail stating that a committee has decided that their view is irrelevant and that their homes are being bulldozed to the ground?

“Oh, by the way, we are deciding what your home is worth, and if you have no desire to move or no other home is available for immediate occupancy, or the cost is higher than what we are paying you … not our problem!”

Why does one person’s opinion matter more than another’s? Why does one man or any number of men get to decide what happens to another’s property?

People of Fayette County, we need to stand up for each other. Eminent domain is happening all around us and it’s wrong!

I’d be very happy to pay an extra $10, $20 per year, whatever it is, to keep a traffic light working if it means my neighbors, and one day perhaps my family, keep our homes.

These roundabouts affect us all – when we drive on Hwy. 92 S and when our tax bill comes in at the end of each year.

Please come to the meeting on April 28. Send letters to the commissioners BEFORE April 28 and let them know a traffic light and respect for the homeowners and the churches that will be affected by this change are your choice.
