Mel Glenn Brantley of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015.

Mel, son of Eunice and Thomas Brantley, was born in Chula, Ga. and moved to Brunswick, Ga. shortly thereafter where he met his wife, Yvonne Fernandes Brantley, and many lifelong friends.

Mel graduated from Glynn Academy, Class of ’57. He went on to attend Wake Forest and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Mel was employed by Pan Air Airlines as a commercial pilot, Benjamin Moore Paints, and ended his professional career as the owner of Village Paint Stores in both Peachtree City and Fayetteville, where his immediate family continues to reside.

He is survived by wife of 53 years, Yvonne Fernandes Brantley, as well as daughter, Melanie Brantley Maloney, son-in-law, Bill Maloney, and granddaughters, Allison Brantley Maloney and Megan Jane Maloney. Additionally, he is survived by siblings, R.O. Brantley, Raymond S. Brantley, Diane Brantley, Janice Brantley, and Brenda Sluder.

Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Barry, Benny Tatum, Johnny Thomas, the Fincher brothers, and Tom Woody. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 27 at 2 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, Ga. Reverend Jim Hanna of Inman United Methodist Church will preside over the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Special Olympics of Georgia.
