The Fayette County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to consider a $1,449,140 bid for dredging at Lake Peachtree during its Jan. 22 regular meeting.
The low bidder is Massana Construction, Inc., one of three companies that submitted bids after nearly 100 were contacted through various means. The county’s Water System and Purchasing Department recommended acceptance of the bid.
An intergovernmental agreement exists between Fayette County and Peachtree City, whereby the two jurisdictions can share the water in Lake Peachtree, according to county officials, and now is the time to dredge the lake, as must be done periodically.
The bid being considered includes all work for which the county is responsible. Alternate bids for cutting and removal of vegetation as well as site work, excavation and hauling will be considered by Peachtree City.
Funds in the Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) in the amount of $901,789 have been designated for this project. The balance of $547,351 will be paid from the Water System’s Renewals and Extension (R&E) account.
Two public hearings are scheduled for the board meeting regarding other agenda items.
Property owner Earl Johnson and agent Rick Sewell have requested rezoning of 8.18 acres on South Kite Lake Road from A-R to R-70 for the development of two residential lots. The Planning Commission approved the request with a condition that the owner/developer provide a quit-claim deed for 40 feet of right-of-way from the center line of South Kite Lake Road prior to approval of the minor subdivision plat.
The other public hearing is for a proposed resolution pertaining to the “Fayette County 2014 Annual Report on Fire Services Impact Fees, including Comprehensive Plan Amendments for Updates to the Capital Improvements Element and Short-Term Work Program (FY2015- FY2019)” and submission of that document to the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Department of Community Affairs. The report was prepared by the county along with the towns of Tyrone, Brooks and Woolsey in accordance with the Georgia Development Impact Fee Act and the Minimum Planning Standards, according to county officials.
The consent agenda includes a staff recommendation to adopt an ordinance amending the county’s regulations regarding off-street parking and service requirements, as well as approval of the Juvenile Court’s request to accept a $72,000 grant that has been awarded to the county by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and requires no matching funds.
The board will issue proclamations recognizing the 2014 All-County softball and volleyball teams, noting outstanding performances from the recent fall season.
Library assistant Sharon Campbell is scheduled to be recognized as the winner of the Team Player Award.
The county’s auditing firm of Nichols, Cauley & Associates will present the results of the FY2014 annual audit.
