Peachtree City United Methodist Church’s senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. Steve Dodson, is the 2014 recipient of the Malone Dodson Award from the Foundation of Wesley Woods.
The award is given annually by Wesley Woods Senior Living to the clergy person of the North Georgia Conference who best exemplifies visionary and committed leadership with respect to older adults.
The Malone Dodson Award is named for the Rev. Dr. Malone Dodson, longtime senior pastor of Roswell United Methodist Church, one of the state’s largest Methodist congregations. He retired in 2001 and is the father of Dr. Steve Dodson.
“I was pleasantly surprised when the CEO of the Foundation for Wesley Woods, Ken Weber, called to inform me that I was to receive the award,” Dodson said. “While it seems a little odd to receive an award with your dad’s name on it, it might be the most meaningful recognition I’ve ever received. My dad has been my mentor and role model my entire life. This award signifies the incredible support he has given to Wesley Woods for more than 40 years. I am honored to receive this recognition. I’m grateful to the people of PTCUMC whose tremendous generosity made this award possible.”
The award was presented by Bishop Mike Watson of the North Georgia Annual Conference at the December meeting of the board of directors of the Foundation for Wesley Woods at Budd Terrace on the Wesley Woods campus near Emory University in Atlanta.
Under Dodson’s leadership and direction, Peachtree City UMC has contributed more than $10,000 to the Foundation of Wesley Woods this year, helping to provide housing, meals, and skilled care for more than 1,500 senior citizens residing at the Wesley Woods Senior Living Center.
Dodson earned his bachelor’s degree from Wofford College. His master of divinity degree is from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
He completed his doctor of ministry program at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky.
He has been senior pastor of Peachtree City United Methodist Church since June 2011.
