The Peachtree City Police Department is starting the 2014 Light Up the Night toy drive, which began on Nov. 20, at the Wal-Mart Shopping Center and continues this weekend.

The event helps to ensure that local families in need can have a joyous holiday.

The department is asking for donations of new unwrapped toys for both girls and boys.

The age range should be from 2 to 17 years of age.

In lieu of toys, monetary donations can also be made at one of the donation drop off points or at the Police Department.

For businesses or civic organizations that would like to make a contribution, call Captain Stan Pye at 770-487-8866.

The toy drive has been a successful in past years.

Last year, over 80 kids were assisted by virtue of this program.

Volunteers from the Police Department and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) contribute many hours of their time to make this program successful.

This year, the police department wishes to make this the most prosperous toy drive and holiday fundraiser the department has ever held.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to this program can stop by the police department during normal business hours. For more information on locations and/or donations, contact Pye at the number above.

 Light up the Night will be at Wal-mart Nov. 29, and Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12, all from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
