Grace Bernhard Sprayberry of Stockbridge, Ga. passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 5, 2014.
She was the daughter of the late Willie Morris Bernhard and the late Edward M. Bernhard and the wife of the late Henry Ray Sprayberry. Born and reared as a city girl, she fell in love with and married Ray, a country boy from Newnan. They were married for 65 years until Ray’s death at the GA Veterans’ Home in Augusta. She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church the latter years of her life but served also as an active member of the Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church in Newnan and the First United Methodist Church of Griffin.
Grace had varied interests and loved to help people. Though she received no formal training as a nurse, she cared for many sick people, as well as prepared meals for them, family, and friends. She was a great party hostess, also. Lover of travel, she visited all but seven of the U.S. States, as well as Canada. Her yard was a garden of colorful and fragrant flowers that everyone admired. Her other favorite activities were baking and dancing. She and Ray were frequent participants of the Hollonville Opry House. In 2007, she became a resident of Laurel Park Nursing Home in Stockbridge, where she lived until her death.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Dr. Roslyn R. Sprayberry of Stockbridge and several nieces and nephews.
