The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded Winston Dowdell Academy (WDA) a $3,000 grant to support youth literacy programs at the school.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity for the students at Winston Dowdell Academy!” said WDA Media Specialist Jan Deyton. “With these funds we will be able to purchase 10 iPads which students will use to create and share multimedia projects in conjunction with research assignments.”
Winston Dowdell Academy is the Coweta County School System’s alternative high school program. Deyton wrote the grant with the purpose of improving services and support in the school library media center and classrooms. She will collaborate with classroom teachers to design instructional units to meet the Georgia Performance Standards emphasizing literacy standards in the content areas.

Awarded at the beginning of the academic year, youth literacy grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation help provide teachers, schools and organizations with the funding and resources they need to properly begin the school year.
