Jordan named All-SEC in soccer

Savannah Jordan, a graduate of Whitewater High, has been named to the All-SEC women’s soccer first team for the second consecutive year as a member of the Florida Gators.

Her team is ranked eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll going into this week’s SEC tournament, which starts today in Gulf Shores, Ala. The games can be seen on the SEC Network and Sunday’s championship will be on ESPNU.

Jordan is the SEC leader in points (35) and goals (15) and was the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week twice during the season. She is among a group of players being considered for the Hermann Trophy, awarded each year to the top college soccer player in the nation, and is on the U.S. roster for the FIFA women’s under-20 World Cup.

Her sophomore exploits come on the heels of a freshman campaign that saw her named the SEC Offensive Player of the year, the first time ever for a freshman, and a second-team All-American after leading the Gators with 22 goals and 47 points. She tied for first in the SEC in goals in 2013 and her point total was fifth in NCAA Division I play.

She did not play her senior year at Whitewater due to travel team commitments, but as a junior she was MVP of the Georgia High School Association’s AAAA championship match, which the Lady Wildcats lost on a penalty kick decision. She earned all-region and all-state honors after scoring 26 goals and posting 21 assists that season, and she was a finalist for Georgia’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior.

She was a five-year captain of the Georgia Olympic Development Program (ODP) state team and a member of the Region III ODP team from 2008-12. Each of those years she traveled internationally, making trips to Costa Rica, France, Germany Holland, Switzerland and Italy. Before that she had several years of elite club team experience.
