Reverend Lowell Edgar Hale returned to the Lord on August 23, 2014.
He was born Dec 4, 1936 in Sylacauga, Ala. Rev. Hale graduated from East Highland High School. After graduating from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1965; he moved his family to Atlanta, Ga.
Rev. Hale continued his studies at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Gammon Theological Seminary. He graduated in 1968. Later, he received his Master of Theology Degree in 1973. Rev. Hale was then appointed Pastor of Bowen United Methodist Church in Tuskegee, Ala.
Rev. Hale later joined the United States Air Force as a Chaplain. His solo assignments took him to Korea and Thailand and his accompanied assignments took him and his family to California, Colorado, Florida, Germany, Turkey, Missouri and Michigan. Lieutenant Colonel Hale retired in 1993 from the United States Air Force. Rev Hale and his wife moved to Fayetteville, Ga. after his military retirement. He continued to serve Christ at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Montgomery, Ala. for 7 years. Reverend Hale later served as Associate Pastor at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Additionally, Rev. Hale was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. His favorite pastime was sampling various food items, especially anything with chocolate in it!
He is survived by his wife Martha Hale, daughter, Pamelar Denise Hale Baker and son-in-law Charles Baker, Jr.
He was preceded in his passing by his parents Ralph Hale Sr. and Johnsie Hale; brothers Ralph Hale Sr., Harvey Hale, Harold Hale, D. Lamar Hale and sister Lillian Hale-Looney. Lowell also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, other relatives and many personal and professional friends.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 29, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Fayetteville. Reverend Mark Westmoreland will officiate. The burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2108 Pine Grove Road, Sylacauga, Ala. 35150.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
