Troop 175 is excited to announce Andrew Shlapak was judged to meet the standards and high ideals of an Eagle Scout.

He is from Troop 175 Peachtree City United Methodist Church. Shlapak graduated from Starr’s Mill High School in the spring and will attend Auburn University this Fall

His project was to build a deck adjacent to the Peachtree City United Methodist Church Youth Lodge.

Peachtree City United Methodish Church had always had a vision to sponsor the development of a church “scouting” facility and from 2000-2003 there were several discussions with church leadership about building a scout hut.

After the church purchased 60 plus acres of property at the intersection of Robison and Stagecoach Road in 2003 the senior pastor, Chuck Hodges, sanctioned the standup of a committee to look into designing, funding, and building a scout hut on the new church property.

The church officially broke ground for the new scout lodge in May 2005 and over the next three years worked to complete the lodge which is situated on approximately two acres of land just off Camp Creek on the southeast corner of the property.

During this three years of building, a team of volunteers worked to raise money, manage site development, put in all utilities (water, electric, septic), host weekend builds using volunteer workers, and recruit donations of skilled trade labor for critical areas such as electrical and HVAC.

The Scout Lodge cost was completely paid for thru donations of money and material.

A four year fundraising effort brought in roughly $300,000 cash with roughly another $250,000 in materials and equipment donated.

The completed, two story log siding lodge opened for use in August, 2008.

The scout lodge is used almost every day of the week. Over 500 Boy Scout, Cub Scout, and Girl Scouts and leaders use the lodge each month.

Additionally the lodge provides meeting space for church conferences, training, meetings,Sunday School classes, and children’s camps every year.
