The first day of school year 2014 will be one Fayette County’s current teacher of the year will never forget. That’s because she has a piece of hardware on her right hand to remind her.
Alexandra Vlachakis, Fayette County Teacher of the Year for 2014, was presented with her official teacher of the year ring before the start of school at Sandy Creek High on August 7. She teaches web design, animation and computer science.
Robert Smith of Balfour presented the commemorative ring to her with the school’s administration and Superintendent Dr. Joseph Barrow in attendance. Balfour provides a commemorative ring each year to the county’s winner.
Vlachakis’ next step is competing for the upcoming Georgia Teacher of the Year title as Fayette’s representative. Meanwhile, Vlachakis reigns as Fayette’s top teacher until the naming of the 2015 Fayette County Teacher of the Year in April. She will be one of three judges who will help determine the next Fayette County Teacher of the Year.
